Flometrics® Pediatric Physical Therapy

Gentle, expert physical therapy that meets your child exactly where they are — built for kids and teens whose bodies don't fit the standard mold. In person at our Amherst, NH clinic.

You've heard it before.

"She's just flexible."

"He'll grow out of it."

"It's only growing pains."

Maybe your child is the bendy one who can do party tricks with their thumbs. Maybe they're the kid who's always tired, always sore, always twisting an ankle on flat ground. Maybe they've been called clumsy, anxious, or dramatic — when what's really happening is a body that's working overtime just to stay stable.

You know something more is going on. We do too.

Flometrics® Pediatric is physical therapy designed for hypermobile kids and teens — the traditional pediatric clinics tend to send home "fine," because their joints move too well and nothing shows up on a standard exam. We start with what your child's body is actually doing, and we build from there.

What makes Flometrics® different for kids and teens?

Most pediatric PT is built to fix one thing and discharge. Hypermobile kids need something else entirely.

Standard pediatric physical therapy is usually organized around a single injury or a developmental milestone — strengthen the ankle, hit the gross-motor target, graduate. That model works beautifully for a sprained wrist. It tends to miss the child whose whole connective-tissue system is loose, because there's no single joint to "fix" and the goalposts keep moving as they grow.

A lot of conventional therapy also pushes flexibility and range of motion. For a hypermobile child, that's the opposite of what helps — they already have more range than they can control. What a hypermobile body needs isn't more flexibility. It's stability, control, and the strength to manage the range it already has. Flometrics® was created around that principle by our co-founder, Dr. Jason Cole, DPT, after 20+ years working with connective tissue.

Here's what that looks like for a child:

We build joint stability and body awareness.

Not bendiness — teaching the muscles around loose joints to do the work the ligaments can't.

We pace around fatigue and flares.

Hypermobile kids tire faster and recover slower, and pushing through is how families end up in a setback. Our sessions are designed so your child progresses without paying for it the next day.

We make it playful and developmentally right.

A 3-year-old can't follow a home-exercise sheet, and a teenager won't. We meet each age where it is — through play for the little ones, and through pain-science education that actually makes sense to an older kid who's scared of their own body.

We coach the whole family.

You leave understanding what's happening and what to do at home, so you're not guessing between visits.

We treat the child, not the chart.

Many of our kids carry more than one diagnosis, and the pieces interact. We look at the whole picture rather than one joint in isolation.

A note from Lauren

I've lived in a hypermobile body for 42 years, and I spent most of my childhood being told there was nothing wrong with me. The exhaustion, the joints that slipped, the pain no one could see — all of it got waved off until I was an adult finally putting the pieces together myself.

I built this clinic so that no kid has to wait that long to be believed. (My own daughter, Julia, included.)

When a child comes to us, we start by taking them seriously. We don't ask them to be tougher or to push through. We figure out what their body is actually doing, and we give them — and you — real tools to make the everyday easier. Watching a kid go from afraid of movement to trusting their own body again is the whole reason we do this.

Who Flometrics® Pediatric is for

We see kids and teens ages 3 and up. Many of them are hypermobile or living with Ehlers–Danlos Syndrome and the conditions that travel with it. But your child does not need a diagnosis — or hypermobility at all — to benefit.

We also work with children navigating other complex or chronic conditions: kids managing chronic pain, fatigue, coordination challenges, or recovery that hasn't gone the way standard therapy predicted. If your child's body is complicated and the usual approach hasn't fit, you're in the right place.

✓ Hypermobile and "bendy" kids who feel unstable, clumsy, or sore

✓ Kids or teens with EDS, hypermobility, or related conditions

✓ Children with parents or siblings who have known hypermobility

✓ Children with coordination, balance, or proprioceptive concerns or deficits

✓ Teens with chronic pain or fatigue who've stalled in traditional PT

✓ Children with other complex or chronic conditions who need a gentler, whole-body approach

MEET your pediatric specialist

Dr. Alli Bobala, DPT

Alli developed and delivers our pediatric program for hypermobile children and teens, helping them build stability, manage energy, and move with confidence through individualized care. Her approach is informed by Flometrics® principles, along with her clinical experience, pediatric background, and passion for pediatric hypermobility.

Throughout her physical therapy training, Alli completed multiple pediatric clinical rotations and developed a strong passion for helping children feel confident in their bodies. Her background as a swim instructor and coach gave her years of experience teaching movement, building trust, and making physical activity both approachable and fun for kids of all ages. She has spent much of her life helping children develop body awareness, confidence, and a positive relationship with movement — skills that naturally translate into her work with hypermobile children and teens.

Alli also lives with hypermobile Ehlers–Danlos Syndrome and several related conditions herself, so she understands the daily reality of these bodies from the inside. That lived experience, paired with her clinical training, means your child gets both real expertise and someone who genuinely gets it.
